Custom Bronze Portraits

“Pay It Forward” and “Win Win” are the two statements that best describe Robin’s artistic and lifetime goals and how she feels we derive the greatest satisfaction from life.  Trained in the healing arts of both Physical Therapy and Psychology, Robin strives to celebrate the accomplishments of her patients and bring closure to loss through a collaborative art effort between the client and herself. Robin says that the art often time is the most expeditious therapeutic tool to help people reconnect to life and living following trauma. She states that she is always deeply fulfilled to be a witness to that transformation.   Robin feels that it is as the witness that her ability is fueled.

Mosby now a sculptor and therapist began sculpting 32 years ago when a physical therapy patient encouraged her that if she believed in herself anything was possible. Ironically, this was the same medicine that Robin was prescribing for her patients, but until that point, didn’t consider applicable to her!  Something in those words really clicked that day for Robin and from that day forward she has tried to bring that message of hope and encouragement to others.

THE WORK

In line with her personal mission statement, Mosby has tried to make each art project a journey for all the participants wherever possible. Robin’s first major monument was for Peter Jordano’s Anheuser- Busch distribution warehouse in Ventura.  She was commissioned to sculpt a 14- foot tall bronze Clydesdale horse for which she solicited participation from people around the world to send their dreams for enclosure within the giant intention vessel that the hollow bronze horse provided.  The goal was for the participants to be reminded of their hopes for themselves each time they saw the Budweiser logo.  Research has shown that reaffirming our positive beliefs with written words and the act of putting these hopes in art helps the participants to align themselves with their goals. Robin began with a local newspaper request for art submissions and it rapidly gained a life of its own ending with participation from folks of all walks of life around the world. Inspired by the response and follow-up from these participants Robin’s later public art projects all incorporate the same general idea of creating ownership, growth and community in her monuments.

In 2004 the Buellton city council commissioned Robin to sculpt 7 life-sized children saluting the flag for their town beautification project. For this sculpture the city public school children participated in placing their thumbprints in a portion of the clay and submitting their views on what freedom means to them.

Mosby’s next major monument was commissioned by friends of former President Reagan’s to honor his life and times. The audience for this project was much different than previous works but the goal was the same.  Robin is not politically inclined by any means but to see powerful and often times austere leaders of our country emotionally touched when presented with their friend in bronze was an incredible honor.

Robin enjoys projects of all sizes with a range from monument to minute but always with the common goal of health and community as the foundation.

Creating art that encapsulates the essence of a cherished memory or relationship is a profound privilege. My greatest joy comes when I have been honored to create a likeness in bronze that is evocative of deep emotion in my client.
